Major General William Henry Talbot (Old Shotpouch) Walker

Born November 26, 1816 in Augusta, GA

Killed instantly by a XVI Corps picket line while leading a division in an

assault on Sherman's left during the Battle of Atlanta on the afternoon of July 22, 1864.





Brigadier General States Rights Gist

Born September 3, 1831 in Union, SC

Killed during the assault on the center  of the federal line

at Franklin, TN on November 30, 1864.




Lieutinant General William Joseph Hardee

Born on October 12, 1815 in Camden County, GA.

Died on November 6, 1873 while traveling through Virginia.




Major General John Cabell Breckenridge

Born on January 15, 1821 in Lexington, KY.

Appointed secretary of war in February 1865.

Died on May 17, 1875 in Lexington, KY.




Major General John Calvin Brown

Born on January 6, 1827 in Giles Cty, TN.

During the Battle of Franklin on November 30, 1864, his men

penetrated the farthest through the break near the Carter House.

The Union counterattack forced them back to just inside the last outer works. Here they remained pinned down for most of the afternoon caught

in a crossfire from 3 sides. Finally withdrew to safety after forcing their way out with heavy hand-to-hand fighting. His division suffered terrible losses with 2 brigade commanders killed, 1 wounded and another captured. He himself was so badly wounded, his field career was over.

After the war, he returned to practicing law and was twice elected governor of Tennessee ( 1870 & 1872 ).

Died on August 17, 1889 in Red Boiling Springs, TN.
